I started my counselling training in 2004 (Diploma of Professional Counselling, Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors) and have continued studying to gain a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Jansen Newman Institute, Sydney).
My experience as a counsellor has been with Lifeline, the Lupus Association, the Jansen Newman Institute, Probation and Parole, The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Helpline, Carers NSW, the Rape Crisis Centre NSW, Weave Women and Children’s Centre, the Fragile X Association of Australia, Blue Knot Foundation (formerly ASCA - Adults Surviving Child Abuse) and knowmore legal service.
In addition, I have created and facilitated therapeutic arts programs for children and adults, run interactive workshops, debriefed staff, provided clinical supervision and facilitated support groups. I have provided training on 'Communication and Disability: Connecting and Respecting' for Centre for Community Welfare Training. I have also taught diploma and degree students at the Australian College of Applied Psychology and worked as a trainer for Blue Knot Foundation.
Before becoming a counsellor I worked for nine years in the community with adults and children who have intellectual and physical disabilities, including autism. My special field was devising and implementing arts based activities in a group setting and my BA (Hons) in Dance and Drama (Surrey University, UK) supported this.
